Girls from Rickmansworth School picked up the runners-up medal while representing the East of England at the Under-12 Girls Futsal National final.

The Year Seven pupils showed their skill at the Birmingham Futsal Arena on Saturday by remaining unbeaten in the initial pool stage to advance to the semi final.

Coming up against Tottenham Hotspur, the girls kept their composure to reach the final following a penalty shoot-out.

The girls continued to shine in the final but luck was not on their side this time as the match was again decided on penalties, with the girls finding themselves on the wrong end of a 10-9 defeat.

The squad, skippered by Shannon Cooke, was completed by Rebecca Dowdall, Katy Porter, Jazmin Woolcott, Chiara Boni, Natalie Kiss and Georgina Fitzpatrick.

Miss Monk from Rickmansworth School summed up the school’s pride in their achievement.

She explained: “It is an honour to say the Under-12 Rickmansworth School Girls Futsal team is the second best Futsal team in the country and it is a fantastic achievement that they did not lose a game in any of the three preliminary rounds or national finals”.
