Watford have already lined up a replacement for the departing Adrian Mariappa and veteran Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi is expected at the club's London Colney training ground today, the Watford Observer understands.

Mariappa's move to Reading is set to be confirmed today - along with the Royals' acquisition of Chris Gunter from Nottingham Forest - before the club leave for their pre-season trip to Portugal tomorrow.

And the Watford Observer understands the Hornets are set to sign free agent Fitz Hall and the player will have his medical today.

Watford currently have three players on trial - left back Daniel Pudil, who can also play in midfield, forward Matej Vydra and a central midfielder, whose identity we are unsure of but believe to be Udinese's Almen Abdi.

Watford accepted Reading's bid for Mariappa on Thursday and the centre back had his medical on Friday and agreed personal terms.

On Saturday, Royals boss Brian McDermott told the Reading Post all that was left was "a formality to finalise".

He said: "Once that's complete we're hopeful we will get him done and dusted very early in the week and he would be coming with us to Portugal.

"He's a fantastic character, he's done really well for Watford over a long period and for a young man he has played a lot of games.

"He's got good pace, and he'll fit into what we're trying to do here, like all the new signings have."

His replacement looks like being Hall, who was one of six first team players released by Rangers this summer.

After spells at West Ham United, Barnet and Chesham United as a youngster, Hall's big break came at Oldham Athletic and his performance in Division Two earned the centre back a move to Premier League side Southampton in 2003.

A £1.5m move to Crystal Palace followed and then after two years at Selhurst Park, Hall was signed by Wigan Athletic for £3m.

Hall moved to QPR in 2008 and spent four years at the club, making 92 appearances and achieving promotion to the Premier League in 2011.

Hall made 19 appearances for Rangers last season but he was not offered a new deal and was released on July 1.

The 31-year-old is expected at Watford's London Colney base today, where he is expected to bump into veteran Italian striker Inzaghi.

Watford Observer: Filippo Inzaghi

Inzaghi is considering his options after leaving AC Milan in the summer and the striker, who will be 39 next month, is expected to look around the training ground today.

The former Juventus frontman has made just nine appearances in both of his last two seasons.

Czech duo Pudil and Vydra are still with the club on trial but the duo have tweeted messages suggesting their season-long loans have been confirmed.

Pudil, who plays for Granada, said: "On the year, I'll be in Watford, and then we'll see."

He added: "Is a pleasure to play for Watford."

Udinese forward Vydra also tweeted saying he was heading to Watford.
