Oxhey Jets progress in the FA Cup after victory against Leverstock Green
11:30am Friday 17th August 2012 in Sport
Oxhey Jets are through to the next round of the F.A Cup as they demolished Leverstock Green 5-2 in the extra preliminary round.
Green took the initial initiative after the Jets squandered a couple of early chances. They were made to pay as Adam Halissey struck Green into the lead.
An instant response ensued, with Lewis Putman rounding the keeper to fire Jets level before Luke Beardsworth scored a stunning lob.
Jets smelt the blood of their victims, and an inch perfect pass to Putman allowed him to volley emphatically past the keeper.
Green weren’t ready to concede defeat just yet and a clever run from Paul Insley beat the offside trap and he coolly slotted past the keeper.
The interval saved Jets as it stopped the Leverstock momentum with the pendulum very much swinging in the opposite direction.
Captain Ian Bywater found his side’s fourth goal when he arrived at the back post to thump a header into the top corner.
Moments later, the victory was all but sealed as Beardsworth completed the scoring when he applied the finish to an intricate passing move.
