1:40pm Friday 17th August 2012 in Sport
Thames Valley Cricket League
Division 4A
Old Merchant Taylors’ beat Amersham Seconds as they were skittled out for 167.
After a sensational hat-trick by Sohan Modi saw the top order in tatters, the spin duo of Neil Richards and Simon Boardley took three wickets apiece to dismiss the middle and lower order.
In reply, 59 from Modi and further contributions with the bat from Boardley and Gudhka saw the side over the line with three wickets and eight overs in hand.
The win arrests a dip in form that has resulted in two losses in a row and leaves the side isolated in the second promotion place in the table.
Division 7B
Old Merchant Taylors’ Seconds recorded a sensational victory against league leaders Barnes Wild Geese to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.
Invited to bat first, they racked up 258-4 in only 48 overs, with South African all-rounder Kevin Haigh in sublime touch, stroking the ball to all corners of the War Memorial Ground to score his maiden century.
Haigh finished on 156 not out at the end of the innings, with further contributions from Raj Vellingiri and Matt Winkle.
In reply, Piper impressed with the bat for Barnes, but wickets fell regularly at the other end and they were dismissed for 205 to give Old Merchant Taylors’ the league win by 53 runs.
Division 9B
Old Merchant Taylors’ Thirds got their campaign back on track with a hard-fought victory in a fiery encounter away at Hayes.
Runs and wickets were shared around in a genuine team performance, as the OMTs bowled Hayes all-out for 186.
They then chased the target down for a three-wicket victory with a couple of overs to spare to finish on 187 for seven.
