Chorleywood crowned champions of Saracens Herts Cricket League Division One

Division One

Chorleywood captain Tom Smithson spoke of his pride after his side were crowned champions despite their match against Totteridge Millhillians falling victim to the weather on Saturday.

Wood dominated the game up to the point when the weather intervened after bowling Totteridge out for just 114.

Ryan Evans was once again the pick of their bowlers as he moved to 46 league wickets for the season by taking four for 25 from 14.1 overs.

Spinner Will Pendred also bowled well to end on three for 18, while there were two wickets for Peter Dunning. Knowing the weather was closing in, Wood started their run-chase quickly and reached 31 without loss after seven overs.

Rohan Lee had scored 19 and Freddie Dare was on 12 when the heavens opened and no more play was possible.

However, due to results elsewhere, Wood were able to celebrate their season-long domination of the league being made official.

A delighted Smithson said: “I’m so proud of my team today – they’ve all played superbly this season so far and really worked hard together to show just how good they can be on a regular basis.

“Whilst I’m sure we’ll celebrate today, obviously the challenge now is to go on and win our final two games and finish the season unbeaten, which would be a terrific achievement.”

Division Two

Hemel Hempstead Town Seconds’ innings was in trouble on eight for two against County Hall before the weather ended the contest prematurely. Hall had posted a total of 200 for five with the bat.

The majority of the runs came from John Schleefer, who scored a century before being stumped by Liam Jahn off the bowling of Matt Bateman.

Bryan Davies returned the best figures for Hemel as he claimed two for 64. Hall managed to dismiss Neil Morgan (four) and Tom Elborn (four) early in the reply before the game was washed out.

Division Three

Kings Langley kept up their promotion push with a six-wicket win against Letchworth Garden City Seconds. After winning the toss and electing to field, Kings restricted their opponents to a total of 161 for nine of 48 overs.

Christian James was the pick of the bowlers as he impressed with figures of five for 17 off 14 overs. Langley had 43 overs to achieve their target and good knocks from Tom Sambrook (30), Mitch Roberts (22), Paul Ashford (20) and Mark Brazier (21 not out) saw them home in the 38th over.
