Hemel Hempstead Town held by Sawbridgeworth

Hemel Hempstead Town's hopes of winning the Home Counties Division Two East were ended as they were held to a draw against Sawbridgeworth.

With the bat, Sawbridgeworth put together a good total of 244 for the loss of nine wickets in their 60 overs.

Craig Weston (four for 29), Cameron Hutcheon (three for 22) and Jay O’Nien (one for 58) took the wickets for Hemel.

In reply, openers Brett Penny and Sam Jenkinson got them off to a good start with scores of 16 and 54 respectively.

O’Nien then provided a useful 40 and Weston added 30 but Hemel ran out of time and finished on 229 for nine.

Langleybury managed to hold out for a draw against Stevenage to ensure their battle against relegation goes to the final match.

Batting first, Stevenage got off to a good start and were 124 for one after 30 overs. However, Kristian Martin turned the match with a fine bowling display.

Stevenage lost their last nine wickets for 54 runs to finish 179 all out as Martin ended with figures of seven for 76.

Bury had 62 overs to chase down the score but began poorly and were 22 for two after tenovers.

But Danny Walker and Gareth James started to repair the damage with a partnership of 40 runs before they were both run out.

Langleybury’s chase started to falter and they chose to ensure they didn’t lose the match.

They batted out for a draw and need to defeat Radlett tomorrow (Saturday) to keep their fight alive.

West Herts’ Matt Smith took six wickets in his side’s 53-run win against Hoddesdon.

With the bat, West Herts reached a respectable total of 218 all out, with Alastair Lewis top scoring with 54.

Hoddesdon began their run chase but soon lost wickets as Smith worked his way through the batting line-up.

They eventually fell short of their target, ending their innings on 165 all out.
