Watford forward Britt Assombalonga is "perfectly happy" to extend his loan spell at Southend United after making it four goals in as many games at the weekend.
Assombalonga scored a first-half brace as Southend beat ten-man Dagenham & Redbridge and the 19-year-old was disappointed he didn't score a hat-trick.
Assombalonga told the Echo; "I am a Southend player at the moment and I’ll speak to the gaffer about what happens next.
"I want to play football, score goals and get 90 minutes under my belt each week so this is a good place to do that.
"I'm learning all the time and I've settled in well so I would be perfectly happy to stay for longer."
Assombalonga’s story is an interesting one as the forward was only playing for his Sunday league team two-and-a-half years ago but he impressed during one of Watford’s community trust courses and was recommended to the Hornets Academy staff.
He was handed a scholarship and subsequently his first professional contract, which was extended until 2013 in March.
Last season Assombalonga excelled during his two loan spells – scoring 11 goals in 15 appearances at Ryman Premier side Wealdstone and five goals in as many games at Braintree Town in the Conference.
His loan spell at Braintree was extended by another month but the Hornets recalled the youngster and he went on to make two starts and two substitute appearances.
With the influx of new signings this summer, Watford decided to loan out the forward and he has played a huge role in Southend winning three games on the bounce.
"I thought it [Saturday's performance] proved Britt's a real predator," Southend manager Paul Sturrock said.
"He was in the right place at the right time and also scored a fantastic header too.
"We're really pleased with how he's progressing and he's learning all the time, but there's plenty of water to go under the bridge before we get in to extending his loan."
Elsewhere, Watford defender Dale Bennett was forced off at half time on Saturday as his loan club AFC Wimbledon lost 2-0 to Northampton Town.
The 22-year-old has made three starts for the League Two club since he joined them on loan.
Dons manager Terry Brown told Ham & High: "Losing Dale Bennett at half-time was a big blow. He’s a big, strong player and very important to us winning the ball.
"In other areas of the park we did okay but you have to be able to cope with the ball into the box and we didn’t do that."
The Hornets other player currently out on loan Adam Thompson has been on international duty with Northern Ireland Under-21s.
He played the full 90 minutes in both Friday's 3-1 defeat to Macedonia and last night's 3-0 loss to Denmark.

Now we have the backing of the Pozzos we can afford to loan the young ones out to gain experience as we have a stronger squad. This will only improve them! So all this fuss over academy status is irrelevant!
Young player adapts to a certain standard/age and then loaned to a league 2 side to gain valuable match experience then after a few years becomes the squad player he deserves to be!

Is this true or just a break? Or just for certain age levels? To quote the Saint GT "This I do not like" A friend of mine had a nephew go through the academy. Although the young man did not make the grade for football it turned his life around.

The problem with the Academy was when the players get to 16/17/18 and they only have very little reserve football and low standard youth football experience so to automatically be on the 1st team bench or released is in fair as they haven't had a chance to develop! There have been pros of international class released from clubs as a kid for over 30 years but go on to be superstars! The enlarged squad and improved funding and resources at WFC now means the better academy/younger players can get a better footy education by being loaned to league 1/2 clubs or blue square which will improve them so when it comes to joining the 1st team squad they are properly prepared!

......As for Academy football i for one believe the return in developing youngsters is very poor.I am not sure of the stats of 11 year olds making proffesional players, but feel certain it reads pretty miserable. The main reason is the change between 11 and say 16 within each childs physical ways....... I have had experience in watching youth change over the years within there soccer physique. A typical example is great tidy little 11 year old but get totally pushed about at 14 to 16. The reality is that an Academy is not good for under 15s in my humble opinion. There are many good players who are untapped by so called big time Charlies. The likes of John Barnes was spotted at Sudbury Court when he was 14. A better age to judge youth. So for me its a total waste of time to nurture a child and to let them go around 15.In both time and money.

This is what we are starting to do coz it's not fair to just chuck a youngster into a game with 15 mins to go and expect him to have an instant impact.
Britt will be a better player for this and who knows come January or next season he could feature more for us?
