Matthew Whichelow and Piero Mingoia join Accrington Stanley on loan

Watford duo Matty Whichelow and Piero Mingoia have joined Accrington Stanley on loan .

Whichelow has signed for the League Two club until December 18 and Mingoia on an initial one-month loan, with the view to an extension.

Whichelow had an excellent 2010/11 campaign as he made five starts and 16 substitute appearances during his first season as a professional.

He told Accrington's website: "Neither of us have come here to just watch, we want to play games. If that means battling for positions then so be it, it's about playing games.

"I've heard about other players coming here on loan and doing well, like Tom Lees at Leeds. He came here and did well and now he's just got an England call up. We'd like to come in and do exactly the same."

Whichelow returned in the summer expecting to challenge for a starting place but only made one substitute appearance for the Hornets before being loaned out to Exeter in September.

The 20-year-old made three starts during his loan spell at the League One club but returned home early after losing his place.

He was loaned out to League One strugglers Wycombe Wanderers for a month at the end of January but failed to impress during his four starts for the club, despite making a scoring debut.

Whichelow had just one 15-minute cameo following his return from Adams Park and hasn't featured so far this season.

Mingoia also suffered a difficult second season after a decent start to his professional career.

The 20-year-old scored on his debut for the Hornets in an FA Cup third round tie against Hartlepool United two seasons ago and has made six further appearances for Watford.

But he didn't feature for Sean Dyche and had an unsuccessful loan spell with League One side Brentford, before finishing the campaign at Hayes and Yeading, where he scored twice in eight outings.

Mingoia was very much part of Watford's first team during pre-season though and impressed on several occasions, but has not featured in a competitive game under Gianfranco Zola.

Mingoia said: "The manager told us that the club try to do things properly and the way they play is the way I like to play so hopefully it's a good match.

"We met the boys in the hotel at Dagenham on Saturday and everyone's been really nice so hopefully that will help us make a good start."
