Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall insists his team were trying to be positive against Leicester

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall has defended his team's style of play during their 9-9 draw with Leicester.

The match was blighted by handling errors and infringement meaning try-scoring opportunities for both sides were few and far between.

But McCall insists his team wanted to play open, attacking rugby and blamed the referee for not policing the breakdown.

"We certainly came with the intent to play," he said.

"If the breakdown’s not policed at all with two teams who defend very well that’s going to happen.

"The referee penalised them a lot, but not enough. We came with a good positive intent and that’s the kind of game we’re trying to play."

Saracens will be looking to put their mistakes right when they travel to Exeter Chiefs on Sunday.
