Winning start in promotion quest for Hertfordshire Ladies Volleyball Club
2:00pm Friday 21st September 2012 in Sport
Hertfordshire Ladies Volleyball Club kicked off their new season with a 3-1 home win over Cambridge in National League Division Two.
Having narrowly missed out on promotion in the play-offs last season, Herts are eyeing automatic promotion and have boosted their chances with an influx of new players over the summer.
The club have also recruited experienced ex-international coach Pete Brooks to take charge of the team.
After a good start, tough serving and strong defensive play saw the team take the first two sets 25-20, 25-13.
However, Cambridge fought back and claimed the third set 25-23.
But Herts recovered and claimed their first victory of the season after taking the final set 25-20.
For her performance in the match, Alexandra Schultze was awarded the most valuable player accolade.
Herts are back in action this Saturday as they travel to Sheffield.
