Watford Water Polo Club got their British Water Polo League Division Four campaign off to the perfect start with wins against Bedford and Grantham.
The Watford side strolled to victory in their opening fixture and went in at half-time with a 10-0 advantage as Bedford couldn’t cope with their opponents.
Paul Skerm netted five times, James Kattan twice and there was a goal apiece for Luke Rogers, Neil Haftel and Ciaran Walshe – all scored in the opening two quarters.
After the interval, Watford added to their lead with ease and completed a comfortable 23-6 victory over Bedford.
While the second match was a closer contest, Watford were too strong for Grantham as they claimed a 17-6 win.
The opening quarter was an open affair as both sides traded goals but Watford managed to take a slender lead into the second period thanks to a brace from Kattan, while Walshe, Richard Hime and Jason Attwood also found the back of the net.
In the second and third quarters Watford took control of the match to open up a five-goal lead at 13-8 – Kattan again impressing with his finishing as he claimed a hat-trick.
In the final period the win was rounded off as two goals from Steve Behr was added to by efforts from Walshe and Alun Dorrington to complete the success.
