9:51am Thursday 4th October 2012 in Sport
Garston Ladies Under-10s held King George to a 2-2 draw in their top of the table clash at the Met Police Club.
The girls rushed into a two goal lead thanks to an early strike by Nicole Zermani and a deflected own-goal but the visitors staged a dramatic second-half comeback to secure the draw.
Both of Garston’s U-11 teams maintained their 100 per cent start to the season. The Mets travelled to Bury Rangers for the second week in a row and, just like last time, came home with an 8-0 win. Libby Poster grabbed a hat-trick and the other goals were scored by Megan Allaway, Abbie Lafayette, Lana Barnes, Nicole Brimble and Raaya Thanki.
The U-11 Diamonds welcomed Harpenden Colts to The Met where the two teams played put an eight goal thriller. The Colts went ahead early on but two Mia Ford goals turned the game on its head to give Garston a 2-1 lead at half-time.
The second half started well for the Diamonds as Ford notched her third but now it was Harpenden’s turn to take command as they scored two quick goals to draw the scores level. Ford then put the seal on an outstanding individual performance by scoring two more to take her own tally to five and secure a 5-3 win for Garston.
Garston’s U-12s lost their unbeaten record after going down 1-0 to a late Croxley Guild winner while the U-13s recorded their third successive draw in an exciting game against Bury Rangers.
Garston twice took the lead in the first half from the boot of Molly McGuane only for Bury to draw level and then take a 3-2 lead early in the second half. With ten minutes left, McGuane pounced on a loose ball in the area to claim her hat-trick and grab an important point for Garston in the 3-3 draw.
The U-15 Mets consolidated their place at the top of Hertfordshire Girls’ U-15 Division One recording their fourth win in four games. The encounter with Bedwell was a tight affair but the Mets earned the three points on the back of a 2-0 win set up by a Lauren Berryman brace.
Garston Ladies’ U-15 Sharks found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline against Barnet Azzurri. Jade Roberts and Hannah Burt both scored in an even first half and Leah Crocket added a third after the break but Barnet’s persistent pressure eventually paid off.
