Ex-Watford duo Neal Ardley and Neil Cox appointed manager and assistant by AFC Wimbledon

Former Watford duo Neal Ardley and Neil Cox have been named the manager and assistant manager of AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons confirmed the pair's appointment this afternoon and the club stated Ardley beat off competition from three other "strong" candidates.

Ardley, who played for Watford for three years, made almost 250 appearances for Wimbledon as a player between 1991 until 2002.

The Cardiff City Academy manager has named Cox as assistant manager and AFC Wimbledon's caretaker boss Simon Bassey as first team coach.

The Hounslow Chronicle reported yesterday that Robert Page was set to be appointed manager. The former Watford defender was reportedly one of the other candidates.

The best of luck to them, they were both good players for us.

In a time when club news is sparse it is good to hear about players from the past doing well.

As for those not bothered, well I guess they are so narrow minded and self centred that they get my sympathy.

Do you remember the passage-

Cox to Hand to Mayo- all a bit messy if you ask me

God, did we really once have English players? How grubby. How parochial. Oh and while 'Cox to Hand to Mayo' was messy, I always found 'Hyde Lyttle Cox' particularly sound advice.
