Nyron Nosworthy scored his first international goal last night as Jamaica kept alive their hopes of World Cup qualification with a 4-1 victory over Antigua & Barbuda.

Following Friday’s 2-1 defeat in Guatemala in which the Hornets defender played the full 90 minutes, Demar Phillips gave the hosts a 16th-minute lead before Nosworthy got on the scoresheet 60 seconds later.

Antigua pulled one back 16 minutes after the break but a Dane Richards brace ensured the Jamicans advanced to the final group stage of qualifying after edging out Guatemala on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Matej Vydra added to his senior international experience by coming on as a second-half substitute in the Czech Republic’s 0-0 draw with Bulgaria.

The on-loan Watford striker, who did not feature in Friday’s 3-1 win over Malta, replaced Tomas Pekhart after 58 minutes but his nation were unable to make the breakthrough.

The result leaves the Czechs third in their group, five points behind table-toppers Italy but with a game in hand on the leaders and second-placed Bulgaria.

Lee Hodson had to settle for a night looking on from the bench as his Northern Ireland team-mates claimed a memorable 1-1 draw in Portugal – a team ranked 114 places above them in the FIFA standings.

Niall McGinn put the visitors on course for a stunning win by giving them the lead after 30 minutes but Helder Postiga rescued a point for the hosts 11 minutes from time on a night when Cristiano Ronaldo won his 100th cap.

Despite the result, it was only the second point Michael O’Neill’s men have picked up in three qualification matches to date, leaving them fourth in Group F, ten points behind leaders Russia, who have played a game more.

Tommie Hoban was also an unused replacement as Republic of Ireland Under-19s came from two goals down to earn an impressive 2-2 draw with Germany in their final UEFA Championship first round qualifier.

The young Watford defender had previously captained his nation to victories over Luxembourg and Macedonia to ensure they, alongside the group-winning Germans, qualified for the elite phase of the competition.
