Herts Sunday Junior Cup Round Two

Bovingdon made it through to the third round after coming out on top 6-5 in a thriller against Watford Sunday League Division Three side Shenley Wood.

The game was end to end from the start as James Strivens gave Bovingdon an early lead before Shenley quickly equalised.

Luke Orr restored the hosts’ advantage but Shenley levelled again to send the two sides in at the break with the score at 2-2.

Early in the second period Shenley went ahead for the first half thanks to a penalty, but Bovingdon then struck back scoring four goals without reply by Matt McMahon, Joe Horwood, David Marks and Chris Kimonos.

However, the visitors again fought back and netted twice but despite their continued heavy pressure late on, Bovingdon held on and will face Proverbial United in the next round. Brookside, who had a good run in the competition last season, easily defeated Bradmore Rovers 8-1.

Johnny Armitt found the net on five occasions while Jordan Cocomazzi, James Blackwell and Gerry Hanna were also on target.

The victory means Brookside will face A.M.G United at home in the third round of the competition.

There was disappointment for Colne Valley Reserves as they lost 3-0 at home to Riverside Corinthians and Cassiobury Revolution exited the competition after a 4-1 defeat against St Albans IFC.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round Two

Aquis progressed into the next round after they secured a 5-4 win away at Heath Rovers.

The visitors went ahead early on thanks to an own goal but the hosts responded to take a 2-1 lead at the break.

In the second period, Aaron Spink equalised for Aquis and then gave them the lead from the penalty spot. Their advantage was extended after a own goal but Rovers reduced the deficit.

Murray Duff restored the two goal lead and, although Heath did score once more, it was enough to seal the victory and Aquis face a trip to either Church End FC or Sawbridgeworth Brewery FC in the third stage.

Elsewhere, Headstone Lions suffered a 7-1 defeat away to Red Lion Stanstead Abbots. The only joy for Lions was a Laine Horsley penalty.

Premier Division

Headstone Athletic still lead the table after a narrow 2-1 win over last season’s runners-up Colne Valley – who have yet to taste victory in this campaign.

Dan Page scored in the first half for Headstone before Luke Clark levelled with a strike in the second period.

With a draw seemingly on the cards, Marc Brimble found a winner for Athletic with just five minutes of the contest remaining.

Meanwhile, Cassiobury Rangers claimed a 2-0 home victory over Old Danes Athletic with Joe Mortimer and Rob Tomkinson the men on target in either half.

Woodside defeated Kings Langley 3-1 thanks to a Drew Snailham hat-trick, George Rowland replied for Langley.

Reed Rangers moved up to second in the table as they secured a 5-3 win over Tudor Arms.

Reed’s goals came from a penalty from David Baxter, a brace from George Hobson and strikes by Jamie Speer and Lucas Gibbons.

Tudor performed valiantly but efforts from Tom Herbert, Jack Robertson and James Roope ultimately counted for nothing.

Division One

It was a weekend of high scoring affairs in the division and no more so than in FC Aps’ 8-4 win against Pavilion Rangers.

Aps established a 5-0 advantage in the first half, before three goals from Ryan Walsh, Jordan Aston Woods and Luke Foot either side of the break reduced the arrears to 5-3.

Aps then replied three more times before Rangers pulled a goal back late on.

Watford Labour Club defeated WD Athletic 6-2. Paul Collett scored a brace for Labour which was added to by John Barker, Ian Smithard, Mark Bedford and an own goal.

Division Two

Oxhey Park dented title favourites Evergreen Olympians by securing 4-2 victory.

Shane Flynn put Oxhey ahead before Jack Garratt equalised for Evergreen.

However, Flynn scored the second soon after before Rob Blesserhasset put Oxhey 3-1 ahead before the break.

Sam Blesserhasset netted a fine solo goal in the second half before Martin Tebbs grabbed a consolation for Green late on.

Ebury Olympians defeated Roundbush 3-1.

Blaise Shevrington scored a penalty to Bush ahead in the first half but another penalty, this time for Ebury, changed the game early in the second half.

Bush were reduced to ten men for a handball on the line and, although the resulting penalty was missed, Ebury levelled through Jason Quilley.

William Keedy then put them ahead with nine minutes left and Matt Howlett rounded off the win in injury time.
