Chess Valley League

Division One

Abbots Langley were beaten by three wickets against Wembley after scoring a below-par 178 with the bat.

David Best (70) and Peter Metcalfe (59) were the main contributors to the Langley total but it wasn’t enough to defend and Wembley chased down the runs with relative ease.

Division Five

Chorleywood strolled to a straightforward victory as they outplayed Old Albanian Cavaliers in all departments to win by 147 runs.

Batting first, Wood put up an imposing total of 243 for seven from their 45 overs with Ryan Fleming top-scoring with 79 after openers Neil Ret (37) and Freddie Dare (24) had got them off to a flying start.

In the field, Wood ripped through the Cavaliers batting line up for just 96 with four wickets for skipper Nigel Tyler and three for opener Jamie Smithson to secure their fourth win in a row.

Division Seven

A maiden senior century for 16-year-old Charlie Hoskins helped Hemel Hempstead clinch a 65-run win against Harrow St Mary’s Seconds.

Hemel batted first and were in trouble on 72 for six before Hoskins came to the crease. He and Jack Doodson (100 not out) put on 194 for the seventh wicket to push Hemel up to a final total of 266 for six from their 45 overs.

It was a similar story for Harrow as they lost early wickets before the tail staged a recovery. However, it wasn’t enough and St Mary’s were skittled 65 runs short of the Hemel total.

Division Eight

Chorleywood’s Junior Development team continued their excellent league form with their third win out of four games after a six wicket win away at St Albans Seconds.

Wood put in a good team performance in the field to restrict St Albans to 222 for eight from their 45 overs with two wickets each for James Waller, Neil Hodson, Frazer Pegler and Daniel Surkes.

In reply, skipper Tom Smithson led the way with an unbeaten century whilst opening partner Alex Wheal hit his highest score in senior cricket before being dismissed for 73.

Wood suffered a mini-collapse with the loss of four quick wickets before Smithson saw his side home, finishing on an excellent 103.
