Saracens Herts Cricket League

Division Seven

Abbots Langley Seconds suffered their biggest defeat of the season after Luton Town and Indians Seconds claimed a comprehensive 133 run victory.

Luton were restricted to 180 with Andrew Rueth, George Aguis, Dan Roche and Neil White all picking up two wickets.

Despite the small target Abbots Langley struggled throughout and they were bowled out for just 47 as none of their batsmen made it to double figures.

Rickmansworth Seconds narrowly lost a rain affected match against Holtwhites Trinibis by two wickets.

Having lost the toss Rickmansworth were put into bat and punished the opposition bowlers early on. The rain then began to fall and when play was resumed the contest was reduced by 12 overs.

Following the unscheduled break the home side were bowled out for 177 with the last wicket falling off the last ball of the innings.

Holtwhites were forced to chase down the target in only 39 overs. That looked unlikely after Marc Robinson took with three for 25 and a run-out looked to have handed Ricky the victory.

However, the Holtwhites tail wagged and that was enough to guide their side home with three balls remaining.

Radlett Fourths suffered a disappointing 135-run defeat away at Botany Bay Seconds.

A strong batting performance helped Bay post a final total of 255 for five from 49 overs.

It was a total that Radlett were never close to chasing down and they were dismissed for just 130 in 34 overs.

Division Eight

Hemel Hempstead Fourths beat Harpenden Fourths by 17 runs after Tony Bearnish took five for 32.

Having won the toss Hemel chose to bat first and 71 from captain Steve Smith set the home side up nicely as they posted a final total of 165 for nine.

The Harpenden response began well but Bearnish took control and ripped through their line-up.

He was helped at the other end by Richard Morton who claimed two for 35 and Harpenden were bowled out for 148.

Relegation threatened Bushey Seconds recorded a rare win, as they overcame Langleybury Thirds by 38 runs.

Having been asked to bat, Bushey struggled to get away against a tight Langleybury attack in a match that was reduced to 50 overs following a short rain delay.

Opening bowler Steve Carter came away with figures of four for 63 while Lee Channer picked up two for 30 to restrict Bushey to 138 for nine.

With only a small target to defend the home side’s opening bowlers came out firing and reduced Langleybury to three for three.

Rain halted the match once and despite opener Graeme Roe’s (32) best efforts the away side were bowled out for a lowly 100.

The shock defeat saw Langleybury slip to eighth in the table while Bushey continued to edge away from the relegation places.

Division Ten

Chorleywood Thirds’ poor form continued and they suffered their sixth successive defeat after losing by five wickets against Abbots Langley Thirds.

After losing the toss, Wood were inserted.

Chris Lee top scored with an assured 77 and he was supported at the top of the order by opener Rohan Dua (33).

Only three batsmen made double figures however but Steve Ord smashed a couple of late boundaries to give Chorleywood the extra batting point before they were bowled out for 172.

A hostile spell from bowler Michael Brown saw him pick up three wickets but Abbots Langley cantered home in under 43 overs.
