Saracens Herts Cricket League

Division Seven

Abbots Langley Seconds were defeated by Southgate Adelaide Seconds by four wickets in a low-scoring match.

Richard Merritt hit a half-century but Abbots were bowled out for a meagre 86.

Although Craig Smith claimed four for 23, Southgate were able to chase down the target in 26 overs.

Division Eight

Langleybury Thirds defeated Met Police Bushey Seconds by seven wickets as the beaten side collapsed from 100 for four to 112 all out.

Having won the toss, Langleybury asked the visiting side to bat first.

Evan King, who is usually responsible for wicketkeeping duties, took his first two wickets for the club in his spell of two for 21.

There were also impressive figures for Kevin Gallagher, who claimed two for one – and that run was a wide.

The home side’s response did not start well as openers Rob King and Graeme Roe fell cheaply but captain Steve Carter (65) and King (21 not out) helped them recover.

Hemel Hempstead Fourths were relegated by a single point despite clinching a two-wicket away win over Old Owens Seconds.

Hemel chose to put their opponents into bat and Rahul Wickramsinghe’s two for 36 helped restrict the home team to 199 for eight.

In reply, wicketkeeper Aaron Wilson hit 65 and Tyron Goose made 53 as Hemel chased down the target, but Hatfield Hyde Seconds picked up the necessary points to send the away side down.

Northwood Town Seconds suffered a disappointing six-wicket loss at home to champions Mill Hill Village despite Andy Burt scoring a century.

The home side were invited to bat first and, after a flurry of early wickets, Burt entered the fray and struck 102 in an innings that included ten fours and one six.

The visitors’ response started without incident and although Raj Kothecha picked up a couple of wickets, Mill Hill chased down the target within 45 overs.

  •  Northwood Town will be celebrating their 40th birthday this Sunday with a testimonial match between two club stalwarts, both of whom have taken more than 1000 wickets each.

The Dave Harding versus Neal Furmenger match will be a mix of current and ex-members in tribute to the club’s success over the years. All former members are encouraged to attend.

Division Ten

Chorleywood Thirds survived relegation despite a three-wicket loss at home to Waltham Cross Rosedale Thirds.

Batting first, Wood declared after making a solid 200 for five with Steve Dunning scoring an unbeaten 52.

Nigel Tyler picked up four for 45 for the home side but Waltham Cross eased to victory.

Kings Langley Thirds narrowly missed out on promotion despite a three-wicket win over Luton Town and Indians Fourths.

Gordon Sambidge took four for nine as Luton were bowled out for only 84 before Phil Robinson hit 30 to hand Kings victory.

Northwood Thirds guaranteed another season in Division Ten despite suffering a one-wicket loss away to Welwyn Garden City Fourths, even though Chandana Silva picked up seven wickets.

Masood Ahmed top-scored with 36 for the visitors as they were bowled out for 120.

Although there was an impressive bowling spell from Silva, which saw him claim figures of seven for 49, he could not stop Welwyn claiming victory.

Abbots Langley Thirds were beaten by eight wickets by Boxmoor Seconds despite a knock of 41 from Ken Parkins.

Harry Khan also hit 20 as Abbots were bowled out for 131 and Boxmoor chased down the target in 20 overs for the loss of only two wickets.
