Steve Finn will be hoping to stake his claim for a place in England’s Ashes team when he plays in the final warm-up match against an Australian Invitational XI in Sydney this week.

The match is England’s last chance to finalise preparations before they take on the Aussies in the first Ashes test at the Gabba in Brisbane on November 21.

Finn is expected to play alongside Chris Tremlett while England could choose to rest regular pacemen Stuart Broad and James Anderson.

The Watford-born bowler was not involved in last week's rain-interrupted draw against Australia A and he admits he is looking forward to getting some time out in the middle and honing his deliveries.

“Even if I feel like they're coming out great, I'm always looking to get better and find ways to get better,” Finn told SkySports.

“I'm still a little bit of a way off and the proof of the pudding will be the performances in the middle.

“If I come away from this game with some wickets under my belt and some overs under my belt I’ll be happy.”
