Hertfordshire cricket clubs will compete in two new county divisions next season after plans to leave the Home Counties Premier League were brought forward.

The Saracens Hertfordshire Premier League and Championship were due to be established in 2015 but 24 Herts clubs unanimously voted on Monday to begin the breakaway leagues next year.

However, teams are required to give one year’s notice in order to depart the Home Continues Premier League and Hertfordshire sides need the agreement of league officials in order to leave.

It is hoped the new divisions will help the development of young cricketers as well as increasing the standard of competition.

A cricket sub-committee will meet next Monday, November 18, to finalise the details of the composition of the new top two divisions as well as playing conditions and match rules.
