It's been a frustrating few months for Steve Finn but the Watford-born fast bowler produced an impressive performance as he claimed six for 80 for Middlesex against Sussex.

Former Parmiter’s School pupil Finn had a wretched winter and was sent home from England’s tour of Australia in January after being deemed “unselectable” due to issues with his bowling action.

He returned to Middlesex and has been working on rediscovering the form that led to him being one of England’s first-choice Test bowlers.

In Middlesex’s County Championship Division One clash with Sussex, the 25-year-old was the stand-out performer with the ball.

After an expensive opening spell on Sunday evening, he bowled well and claimed regular wickets.

He ended with six for 80 from 21.3 overs, or six for 60 from 17.3 overs when his first burst with the ball is taken out of the equation.

While Finn impressed, Middlesex, who train at Radlett CC, struggled and were heavily beaten. They lost by an innings and 127 runs as Sussex eased to victory.

Their first innings was ended on just 105, with Finn the remaining batsman on six not out.

Sussex went on to post an imposing first innings total of 386 not out and that proved more than enough to seal victory as Middlesex’s second spell with the bat was halted on 154.

Finn offered some late tail-end resistance, putting on 26 off 22 balls, but his efforts only delayed the inevitable Sussex win.
