Organisers of the Watford Observer Fourteen14 have decided to extend the entry deadline to give as many clubs as possible the opportunity to participate in this year's Shield and Plate.

Headed by Shield holders West Herts, eight clubs have so far confirmed their participation in the area's premier limited overs knockout competition ahead of today's originald deadline. These are Abbots Langley, Bushey, Frogmore, Kings Langley, Langleybury (two teams), Met Police Bushey and Watford Haidery (two teams).

However, a number of other clubs have contacted the Watford Observer sports desk to declare their intention to enter. They, and any other clubs who wish to take part, have until Wednesday to submit their entry form, squad list and entry fee of £40 as per competition rules.

The intention is to hold the Shield draw on Monday, April 28, which allows almost three weeks for first round games to be played before the scheduled completion date of Friday, May 16.

Further to the previous confirmation that the second Shield semi-final will be held at Kings Langley on Thursday, June 26, the first semi-final will be hosted at West Herts the day before while Chipperfield Clarendon will be the venue for the final on Thursday, July 10.

The organisers wish to thank these clubs for their cooperation in agreeing to host these matches and it is hoped the venues for the semi-finals and final of the Plate will be announced shortly.
