Steve Finn finished without a wicket as England started the new year with a 216-run thrashing of an Australian Capital Territory XI in their opening one-day fixture down under overnight in Canberra.
The Watford-born Middlesex paceman bowled only four overs at a cost of 19 runs as the hosts were dismissed for 148 in 32.4 overs in reply to England’s 364 for six.
James Tredwell was the most successful England bowler, taking three for 11 off four overs, while Stuart Broad (two for 25 off seven) and Moeen Ali (two for 14 off 2.4) claimed two apiece.
Earlier, all of England’s top four – Ian Bell (51), Moeen (50), James Taylor (55) and Joe Root (56) – hit half-centuries, as did Ravi Bopara (56 not out).
England’s next game is against a Prime Minister’s XI tomorrow night.
