Steven Finn admitted he was gutted to be left out of the England squad for the three-Test tour of the West Indies during April and May.

The Watford-born paceman has not played Test cricket for England since the first Ashes test at Trent Bridge in July 2013, an exile of 20 months.

Finn, 25, was included in England’s disastrous World Cup campaign but was dropped after the fourth Pool A match against Sri Lanka, missing out on defeat against Bangladesh and a Duckworth-Lewis win against Afghanistan.

Speaking via Twitter, the former Parmiter’s School pupil revealed his disappointment at missing out on the squad for the trip to the West Indies.

He tweeted: “Gutted to not be picked for the upcoming West Indies tour. Determined to play test cricket again. Hard work starts with Middlesex next week!”

Finn has played 23 Test matches for England, taking 90 wickets, but his Test career has stalled since 2013.

Although Finn was included for the tour to Australia in the winter of 2014 he did not see any action and was sent home early after being deemed unselectable.

Solid county form with Middlesex had seen Finn battle his way back into international contention, culminating in his inclusion in England’s World Cup squad.

But despite becoming the first England player to claim a World Cup hat-trick – albeit a bizarre one – in the 111-run thrashing by Australia in their tournament opener, the Middlesex player has once again found himself on the international periphery.
