An innings of 66 from Will Oxley helped Langleybury to a 19-run win over Long Marston in the first round of the Davidstow Village Cup on Sunday.

Put into bat, Langleybury built steadily via Nahim Amin (48), Luke Samarasinghe (48) and Oxley to close on 239 for seven.

Samarasinghe then starred with the ball too, taking three for 31 to rip through the Long Marston line-up and reduce the hosts to 112 for eight.

Khalid Manzoor returned figures of three for 43 as only H. Wareham (32) offered much in the way of staying power for the home side.

Langleybury won their Readers 20-20 Cup opener against Stevenage on Monday, a margin of 29 runs the difference between the two sides.

Batting first Langleybury made 181 for six, with Oxley (76) continuing his good form.

Stevenage were always behind the scoring rate and finished on 152 for six.

Hemel Hempstead Town came up short by 30 runs in their 20-20 Cup group opener against North Mymms.

Mymms won the toss and batted first, racing to 50 for one in the first five overs whilst fielding restrictions were in force.

Hemel did well to then haul Mymms back to a reasonable score of 138 for five. Spinners Parth Metha (one for 18) and Richard Morton (two for 20) managed to keep things under control for the home side.

But Hemel faltered and were at 17 for two before Brad Finch (24) and Chris Blunt (34) offered some resistance. It was not enough though, and the Heath Park side closed on a total of 109.

Hemel exited the ECB Royal London Club Championship at the first-round stage on Saturday, losing by four wickets at home to Harrow St Mary’s.

Put in by Harrow, Hemel made it to 98 for four at the halfway stage, with only skipper Hem Ilangaratne (87) remaining of their frontline batsmen.

Jack Doodson (49) and Blunt (40 not out) moved things along but Hemel ended on 238 for six from their 45 overs.

With early over fielding restrictions in place, Kasthuri took full advantage, crashing his way to 70 from just 55 deliveries.

That set the tone for Harrow and a pair of late wickets for Finch (two for 40) could not stop Harrow, who got home with 15 balls to spare.

Abbots Langley won by five wickets at Berkhamsted in their final warm-up game before the season gets underway.

Hosts Berko won the toss and elected to bat first, Gareth Predy and Jamie Lewis putting on a stand of 46 for the opening wicket before the latter was removed.

Jeremy O’Neill (56) came to the crease and made a partnership of 115 with Luke Frey (59) to help boost the Berkhamsted total to 241 all out; Nick Gurney finishing with six for 46.

Tom Carson (76 not out) and captain Barry Warner (42) helped settle Abbots in reply following a flurry of cheap wickets, whilst Matt Dunstone chipped in with an unbeaten 42 also.

And Dunstone’s union with Carson helped ease Abbots home with five wickets in hand.
