Division Ten B

Watford Town Thirds extended their 100 per cent record this season after a low-scoring nine-wicket win over Hatfield & Crusaders Fourths.

Hatfield won the toss and elected to bat and it was all downhill from there.

Star bowler Asif Khan was swinging and seaming the ball both ways and with genuine pace the visitors had no answer. Five wickets from seven overs, at the cost of only six runs, ripped the heart out of the top order and left Javid to clear up the tail with two wickets from as many overs. This destroyed Hatfield as they were bowled out for a dismal 19.

Town wasted no time in knocking the runs off as they reached the target for the loss of one wicket in 3.4 overs.

Rickmansworth Fourths’ impressive form continued after a comfortable seven-wicket win over Redbourn Fourths.

Rushil Sharma took four wickets, while Jack Lee, Alex Lee and Joe Monk, all 16 or under, took another five wickets between them, to skittle the opponents out for 71.

Ricky’s previous week’s centurion, Matt Atkins, scored 38 not out, establishing an unbroken stand of 50 with Jack Lee (14) to clinch the points.

Watford Town Fourths continued their encouraging start to the new season with a third consecutive victory, beating Met Police Bushey Thirds by seven wickets.

Batting first, Met Police posted a challenging 168 in difficult batting conditions. Despite persistent rain, Sohail Khan (two for 25) and John Crosdil (two for 37) still had some joy with the ball for Town.

In reply, Watford batsmen Parish Sorathia (47 not out), Grant Van Quickelberg (40), Vikrant Molhatra (27) and Abu Choudhury (27 not out) were able to guide the away side to victory by the 40th over with a total of 171 for three.

Regional Division C West

Kings Langley Fourths’ losing run continued after a 56-run defeat to Watford Town Fifths.

Watford were dismissed for 95 as good bowling from Luke O’Dell saw him take three for 17, along with two for 23 from Hadi Ridzi and two for nine by 14-year-old Samuel Hutchings.

Veteran Tony Thompson bagged three for seven but very poor batting again saw Kings dismissed for just 39 with no player reaching double figures.

Victory came down to the final ball as Abbots Langley Fourths edged out West Herts Fourths by just one run in a dramatic clash which saw more than 500 runs scored in 90 overs.

An excellent stand of 131 between Tom Buxton Jnr. (83 not out) and Joe Woodard (47) was the mainstay of the innings as Abbots made it to 259 for nine.

But West Herts were determined to make life hard for their hosts and it all came down to the final delivery.

Needing four to win, West Herts could only manage two and closed on 258 for five to miss out on snatching maximum points.
