Division Ten A

Chorleywood Thirds thumped a below-strength Holtwhites Trinibis Thirds by 190 runs to get their season back on track after successive defeats.

Wood were asked to bat first and responded by piling on the runs as they reached an imposing 260 for four from their 50 overs.

Alastair Gammall top-scored with an aggressive 68 whilst sharing a stand of 86 for the third wicket with Martin Tyler (41). Mike Reeve (43 not out) and Will Bryant (31 not out) then shared an unbroken stand of 74 in the later overs as Wood continued to pile on the runs.

In the field, Wood made short work of the visitors, bowling Holtwhites out for just 70 in the 26th over.

Nigel Tyler once again led from the front with three for 22 from his ten overs while there were two wickets apiece for Sujoy Dey (two for 21) and Adrian Bryant (two for 12) as Wood cruised to the 30 points.

Division Ten B

Watford Town Thirds continued their impressive form by beating high-flying Hertingfordbury Seconds in a 92-run victory.

It looked like a batsman’s paradise but the bowlers stole the show. Town were inserted and were quickly four down without scoring many. Sandeep Singh (52) and Chris Hutchison (24) steadied the ship and saw off the Bury opening attack, helping them score 158 all out.

Town’s openers were too hot to handle and Singh produced a superb display, taking six for nine from ten overs to help dismiss the opposition for just 66.

Northwood Thirds were edged out in a thrilling one-wicket defeat to Bentley Heath Seconds.

Opener Richard Mackey hit 77 while Chaminda Thiththalapitige also impressed scoring 53. Stephen Penny added 38 as Northwood posted a total of 231 for seven.

The result was in the balance for much of the match but Bentley Heath managed to get home with one wicket to spare in the final over. Khurram Rana was the pick of Wood’s bowlers, recording figures of three for 50.

Regional Division B

West Watford Town Fourths maintained their 100 per cent record this season after an eight-wicket victory over Old Camdenians Seconds.

Having won the toss Watford asked the opposition to bat and restricted them to 171 for nine on a flat pitch, with captain John Crosdil taking four for 39 and John Peppett two for nine.

In reply, the Watford batsmen were soon in control, with Grant East top-scoring with 72 in quick time. He was supported by in-form Paresh Sorathia (66 not out) and Vishal Patil (13 not out) to ensure victory in only the 29th over.

Rickmansworth Fourths earned an eight-wicket win over Shenley Village Fourths.

The top three of the Shenley batting line-up got their side off to a positive start and at 90 for one Rickmansworth were up against it.

The introduction of Sam Stabler (four for 48) proved pivotal as he removed the top order, while two wickets apiece for Brendan Lindsay and Meraj Zia saw Shenley restricted to 183 all out.

The Rickmansworth innings got off to a sticky start and at six for two they were in some trouble. However a magnificent 112 not out by Ben Soames, ably support by Ameed Hanif with 51 not out, saw the team home without further loss. It also set a post-war record 181 unbroken stand for the third wicket.

Chorleywood Fourths cruised to a 104-run win away at Redbourn Fourths.

Jonathan Lyons starred with the bat as he hit a magnificent unbeaten 129 in Wood’s imposing total of 268 for six from their 45 overs. Lyons showed his full range of shots as he hit the Redbourn attack all around the ground. Matt Hodson joined in with an aggressive 38 as Wood piled on the runs.

With the ball, Wood picked up early wickets to pile on the pressure as opener Gary Proctor took four for 13 from his eight overs and Mike Rose chipped in with a couple of wickets.

Meanwhile, skipper Simon Dare will start his next spell on a hat-trick after he took the final two wickets of the game in successive deliveries, finishing with impressive figures of three for 18 as his side claimed their third win of the season.

Regional Division C West

Kings Langley Fourths claimed their first win of the season, thrashing Boxmoor Fourths by nine wickets.

Put into bat, Boxmoor had no answer to any of the six bowlers Kings used. Only extras reached double figures as Moor were dismissed for 51. Barry Harding (two for six), Jacob Huchings (two for 12) and Toby Hendy (two for 13) did the damage with three others claiming a wicket each.

In reply, Dave Barton (22 not out) and Warwick Smith (18 not out) saw Langley home by nine wickets in only 13 overs.

Watford Town Fifths continued their good start to the season with a 115-run win over Berkhamsted Fourths.

Watford batted first and their innings was led by 15-year-old opener Adam Allaway who scored 91 as Watford finished on 235 for eight from their 45 overs.

Watford’s bowling was tight throughout Berkhamsted’s reply and they finished on 120 all out.
