Herts Premier Division Radlett eased to a convincing seven-wicket win over third-placed Harpenden on Saturday.

The visitors were put into bat after losing the toss and could only score a total of 190 for eight from their innings.

Opener Nick Lamb top-scored with 58 and there were contributions from Ben Frazer (27), Scott Galloway (25) and Jake Pankhurst (24). Randeep Sanghera claimed figures of three for 44 and Rob Clements took two for 21.

In reply, Radlett eased to the target for the loss of three wickets in 41.3 overs. Jonathan McLean finished on 42 not out and Joe Cooke scored 39 for the victors.

Frazer picked up two for 30 and Will Jones took one for 40 but Harpenden were still no match for the league leaders.

Hemel Hempstead Town’s hopes of staying up are even less likely after a 102-run loss to Hertford.

Batting first, Hertford were kept down to 138 for four from 40 overs. But the opposition put on 108 for the last ten overs which guided them to 246 for six. Parth Mehta took two for 24 for Hemel.

In reply, Hemel were all out for 144. Hemish Ilangaratne opened with 40 and Josh Graves hit 28 but the rest of the side struggled to make an impression as their fears of relegation increased.

In the Championship, West Herts eased to a five-wicket win over Totteridge Millhillians to boost their hopes of avoiding the drop.

After opting to field first, West Herts managed to dismiss their opponents for 200. Matthew Smith was the pick of the bowlers, taking three for 30, and Aalok Jain picked up three for 41. Craig Sanders took one for 21 and Simphiwe Yiba claimed one for 36.

The Stags reached the target for the loss of five wickets in 44.4 overs. Smith top -scored with 41 and there were important assists from Vinesh Gorasia (38), Rahul Gajjar (27 not out) and Craig Sanders (37 not out). The result leaves them second bottom and 23 points ahead of Chorleywood.

Langleybury moved up to fifth in the tabke after a five-wicket victory over Chorleywood.

Richard Oxley won the toss for Langleybury and asked the opposition to bat first in this local derby. The Chorleywood openers got off to a slow but steady start, due to some accurate bowling by Dan O’Connell and Oxley.

With the score on 40 in the 21st over, Billy Gage (two for 40) made the breakthrough with a catch off his own bowling. This was soon followed by Steve Carter (one for 27) trapping the other opener in front. Luke Samarasinghe was introduced in the 31st over and he soon made inroads into the Chorleywood batting, taking six for 24 in 8.5 overs, as Chorleywood lost their last eight wickets for 55 runs to finish on 139 in the 47th over.

Samarasinghe (3) opened with Richard Soulsby (38), but he couldn’t match his bowling performance with the bat. It was left to O’Connell (51 not out) to see Langleybury home for the loss of five wickets and a valuable win.

Kings Langley fell to their first Division One defeat for seven weeks after a 66-run loss to a Monty Panesar-inspired Luton Town & Indians.

The visitors gave themselves every chance by restricting Luton to 202 for eight from their 50 overs. Andrew Burnell was the pick of the bowling attack, continuing his recent run of fine form to take five for 31.

As the wicket began to dry and turn, the Kings batsmen struggled against the Luton spinners, led by Ashes winner Panesar. The former England man took five for 21 in his time off from Essex duty. Kings were eventually dismissed for 137, well short of their victory target.
