Steven Finn has been named in the Test and One-Day International squads for England’s tour to the United Arab Emirates to face Pakistan in October and November.

The Watford-born bowler is one of six pace bowlers named in the 16-man Test squad for the three-match series and has also been included in the 15-man One-Day squad for four subsequent 50-over matches. However, the 26-year-old has not been named in the 15-man squad for the Twenty20 internationals, which will conclude the tour in November.

Having not featured for the Test side in two years, Finn returned this summer to play the final three matches of England’s triumphant Ashes series against Australia, taking a career-best six for 79 in the second innings of the third Test victory at Edgbaston.

Finn took a total of 12 wickets in the series, including his 100th in Test cricket, and then went on to play in the first three One-Day contests.

The Test squad sees Nottinghamshire opener Alex Hales called up for the first time, along with Surrey left-after spinner Zafar Ansari. Hales’ County teammate James Taylor returns, having last played for England in the five-day format against South Africa in 2012, but opener Adam Lyth has been dropped after a disappointing Ashes series.

National selector James Whitaker said: “We would like to congratulate Alastair Cook, Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss and Paul Farbrace on the excellent results they have achieved this summer across all three different formats. We are particularly pleased with the way in which a host of new, young players have swiftly adapted to international cricket and made their mark on the England team in such style.

“The challenge we face against Pakistan will be very different and the composition of our squads reflects the conditions we expect to encounter in the UAE.”

Following two two-day warm-up games against Pakistan A, the three Tests will be played from October 13 to 17, October 22 to 26 and November 1 to 5.

The four One-Day matches are scheduled for November 11, 13, 17 and 20.
