Steven Finn has backed England to beat the West Indies tomorrow and be crowned World T20 champions.

The giant 6ft 8ins bowler, who was ruled out of the squad with a calf injury he picked up while recovering from a side strain sustained during England’s tour of South Africa, says they have the momentum and confidence to come home with the trophy.

The Watford-born star was speaking during yesterday's Ground Force Day where he and the rest of his Middlesex colleagues swapped cricket gloves for gardening gloves to give their training camp and second team base at Radlett Cricket Club a makeover.

Finn says the manner of England’s stunning victory over New Zealand in the semi-final is a real morale-booster ahead of their final showdown with the West Indies.

He said: “I think we have got a great chance. We have played fantastic cricket towards the latter end of the tournament. I think we have momentum and the fact that we so convincingly beat New Zealand, who were the favourites for the tournament going into that semi-final, means the boys can be very confident. If they keep enjoying their cricket and embrace the occasion, the sky’s the limit for them.”

He spoke to his Middlesex and England colleague Eoin Morgan in the countdown to the World Cup final but says he deliberately kept it a very matter of fact chat.

He said: “You try not to over-emphasise the point that they are playing in a world cup final on Sunday. Everyone is excited about it, that’s a given. You just chat and try and talk about other things and have a degree of normality before they go into the carnage of what will be a world cup final.”
