The Watford Observer Plate will have a new name on it this year after a Mike Foley-inspired Leverstock Green set up a July 15 showdown with Watford Haidery B following an emphatic 106-run success over Aldenham tonight.

The two-time winners were still in with a reasonable chance after 11 overs of the semi-final at Abbots Langley, with their opponents on 117 for three, but then Foley cut loose in spectacular fashion.

The batsman hit a stunning nine consecutive boundaries before, off the last ball of the innings, getting the single he required to score an undefeated century to lift the Herts League Division Two pacesetters to a closing total of 185 for four. Foley’s contribution ensured that 68 runs came off the last 24 balls of the innings.

In reply, Green were soon among the wickets at regular intervals and the efforts of Lee Littlejohn (four for 18 off four overs) and Brad Klosterman (three for 15 off three) meant Aldenham were staring down the barrel at 48 for nine.

However, a 31-run last wicket stand between Danny Morgan (15 not out) and Pete Munroe (nine not out) enabled their side to bat out their innings, even though the outcome of the tie had long been a formality.

Green now have a week’s break from Watford Observer action before they take on Haidery in the double-header final at the Met Police Sports Ground.
