Langleybury’s hopes of beating the drop from Division Two East of the Home Counties Premier League were ended by the weather.
Opponents Bishop’s Stortford had reached 93 without loss in Saturday’s final match of the season when the rain intervened, meaning Bury were relegated back to the Herts League after they finished six points adrift of second bottom Hemel Hempstead.
But Gregg Cooper’s men can now look forward to the prospect of a local derby with Chorleywood next season after they clinched promotion from Division Two with an eight-wicket victory over Radlett seconds.
The victory wasn’t quite enough to give Wood the title – Leverstock Green claimed that by two points – but promotion continues the club’s resurgence.
However, Rickmansworth and Abbots Langley are heading in the other direction after they were relegated from Division Two.
Elsewhere, Kings Langley clinched promotion from Division Three, Clarendon move up a league after finishing second in Division Four, but Bushey are relegated.
In Division Five Langleybury seconds are going up after taking third spot, but the second XIs from Leverstock Green and Chorleywood are heading in the opposite direction. Met Police Bushey continue their rise up the leagues after finishing second in Division Six, but Boxmoor and Watford Town seconds will be in Division Seven next season and one of the teams they will be replacing is upwardly mobile Rickmansworth seconds.
Langleybury thirds claimed the Division Nine title, with Bushey seconds claiming the final promotion spot, while the thirds XIs from Leverstock Green and Rickmansworth were among those teams elevated from Division Ten. And Met Police Bushey seconds are up after finishing third in Division 11.
