Holders Leverstock Green relinquished their grip on the Watford Observer Plate tonight when they suffered a disappointing 50-run defeat at the hands of Chipperfield Clarendon in the first semi-final.
The victors amassed a defendable 162 for seven off their 14, eight-ball overs at Met Police Bushey’s Aldenham Road ground, as Green paid the price for dropping Gary Wise three times, with the opener going on to top-score with an unbeaten 57.
Kris Jadeja (20) and Brent Mullett (26) gave the holders a platform to build on, but Levvy struggled to find the boundary regularly enough and finished their innings well short of the required total on 112 for seven. But it was Chipperfield’s discipline with the ball that was also a key difference between the two sides as, rarely for Watford Observer events, they didn’t concede a single wide which is worth four runs under competition rules.
The victors, some of whose players won the trophy for Clarendon in 2007 before they merged with Chipperfield earlier this year, will now meet the winners of Thursday’s second semi-final between Bushey and Kendal Albion.
This will be played at Watford Town’s Woodside ground, before the competition returns to Met Police Bushey for the final on Tuesday, July 14.
Woodside is also the venue for the main Shield final between Met Police Bushey and Harefield next Tuesday (July 7).
