West Herts’ Home Counties Premier League survival hopes suffered another blow when they went down to a 60-run defeat at the hands of Bishop’s Stortford.
The Stags remain ahead of basement club Hertford following Saturday’s sixth setback of the season, but they are now 27 points adrift of a third-from-bottom St Albans.
New Zealand star Neal Parlane (60), almost predictably, was the only batsman to make any sizeable impression as his side were dismissed for 141, with Simon Lindop claiming five for 43.
In reply, Stortford cantered to the win in just over 37 overs, with Ed Ballard remaining unbeaten on 69.
It was also a disappointing day at the other end of the table for Hemel Hempstead, whose hopes of catching Harpenden suffered a major blow with a four-wicket defeat against the table-toppers.
Brett Penny made 82 as Hemel posted a competitive 211 for five, but Harpenden got home with plenty of overs to spare thanks to 89 from Ben Frazer and Bradley Moses’ 50.
The Heath Park club actually went up a place to third despite the defeat, but they are now 50 points adrift of the leaders.
