Mid table West Herts suffered a heavy 106 run defeat when they visited Hoddesdon in Home Counties Division Two East.
The hosts would have been thankful for the opportunity to bat first and took full advantage despite the early loss of opener Rob Walters for a duck, leaving the score at one for one.
However, West Herts were unable to make a further breakthrough until they claimed the wicket of James Kettleborough (116) with the score at 255 for two.
The wicket prompted a declaration, with Kettleborough and Rory Coutts (133) putting the hosts in an incredibly strong position.
The loss of opener Joe Warren with no wickets on the board was hardly the start West Herts were looking for but a knock of 78 from Alastair Lewis saw them give the score a credible look.
Ian Gurney (16) and William Jones (14) were the only other players to post double figure scores however and their chase was ended at 149 for ten.
