There was tremendous anticipation prior to the top of the table clash between Watford Ladies and Luton Town Hatters on Sunday at Sun Postal. Watford, second in the league, were determined to reduce the six point gap between themselves and the league leaders.
Watford started slowly and play was centred in the Watford half for most of the first half of the game. Luton’s first goal came after twenty minutes of fast play when Watford failed to clear a Luton ball and the Ladies watched the ball creep agonisingly into their net.
After the interval, Watford saw more of the play but conceded twice more to make it 3-0 to Luton. The Ladies didn’t give up and with ten minutes left to play, Amy Woods latched onto to a clever through ball from Niamh McIntyre and calmly beat both defenders and the Luton goalie to make it 1-3.
With only a few minutes left in the game Luton defended well and the final score was 1-3.
