Watford Ladies U12 Hornets were pushed all the way by Garston Ladies and following a dramatic penalty shoot-out lifted the League Shield trophy in victory. A fantastic double for the ladies who secured the League title before Easter.

Watford lined up eagerly against a Garston side who are mid-table in Division one, A tough game was expected and that's exactly what Watford got.

The Hornets were straight out of the blocks and dominated the opening exchanges. Leah, Iffy and Frankie were dominating the midfield, Harriet & Ellie were marshalling the back line expertly and Danielle was working hard up front in the lone striker role. And it was Danielle who with a trademark corner kick, set up a header which Iffy smartly put away to put Watford 1-0 up. Izzy was looking confident in goal and her huge drop kicks were causing problems for the Garston defence. Watford then increased their lead when another Danielle corner was met by a perfect run from Frankie who steered the ball on the volley into the back of the net. 2-0 to Watford and as half time came, it looked as though the Hornets were cruising to victory.

The second half started pretty much as the 1st half had finished with Watford on the attack. However the warning signs were there for the Hornets as the dangerous Garston striker started to get into the game though firm tackling from Ellie and excellent defensive awareness from Harriet appeared to keep Diamonds at bay.

With Watford sensing victory Garston scored two quick goals to make the game 2-2. It was now a real cup final with both teams going for the win but no further scoring in the half the game ended 2-2.

Ten minutes of extra time could not separate the teams and the dreaded penalty shoot-out arrived.

Finger nails were chewed and nerves shredded until two penalties were scored and three were saved and the Hornets raised the Shield to add to the league title.
