After the thrill of last weekend’s Cup Final, Watford was out to play at the same pace this weekend. However Evergreen as hosts started stronger with Watford pinned back in their own half for the first few minutes.

Evergreen had plenty of chances all through the first half but a defiant Maddie luckily kept Watford in the game. This gave Watford the chance to slowly improve their game approaching half time.

A defensive error by Watford gave Evergreen their first chance, but the goal was disallowed as deemed offside, but Watford’s luck wasn’t to hold out much longer and a few minutes later Evergreen produced their first goal from a corner which unfortunately struck a Watford player before entering the net. (1-0 to Evergreen)

Matter of fact words from the Manager at half time delivered a little extra resolve by Watford who restarted more brightly. Watford delivered an early second half equaliser from a good corner by Courtney which was struck in by Amy Dewar. (1-1)

Evergreen immediately upped their effort and took the ball back to Watford’s half with several unsuccessful attempts saved well by Gorton. 10 minutes from full time saw Evergreen regain the lead with a further attempt which agonisingly evaded the defenders from Watford and defeated the keeper. At 2-1 Watford stood on the edge of defeat!

Unlike earlier in the season, Watford’s resolve was stronger. They did not give up and forced a last minute equaliser netted by Fiona McQuire from a corner by Blythe.

The last play of the ball and the whistle blew with the final score 2-2 in the final match of the league season for both teams.

Watford finish their season in 3rd position in their division of the League, and the Watford parents get some time to relax!

Player of the match was awarded to Watford’s keeper Maddie Gorton, for a solid performance in spite of a sore back from a fall at school last week.
