Sun Postal Sports exit the St Mary’s Cup after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Leverstock Green

The contest was settled by two first-half goals. Billy Smith broke the deadlock in the 28th minute after he rounded the Sun goalkeeper Andy Hopping to score and a Liam Hind strike on the stroke of half-time doubled Green’s advantage.

Sun were unable to mount a comeback in the second period and Levy comfortably saw out the game to secure their place in the final of the competition.

However, at the weekend Sun strengthened their position at the top of the Division One table after they completed a resounding 5-0 win against Stony Stratford Town.

Paul Hobbs’ side only arrived at Ostlers Lane half-an-hour before kick-off after being held up in traffic and did not even have time for a warm-up.

But any chance Stony had of catching Sun cold evaporated inside eight minutes as their opponents scored twice.

Danny Tompkins cut the ball back for James Armstrong to fire in the opener and then Tompkins went from architect to executioner five minutes later when he turned in a corner from new signing Omar Vassell, cousin of former England international Darius.

Armstrong, 32, put the game out of reach just before half-time with his second. It was the striker’s 29th of the season and his 15th in his last nine games.

Armstrong turned provider for his new strike partner to open his account for the club in the second half before Vassell, the former Francis Combe pupil who had a three-month trial at Brentford, saved the best until last, firing a half-volley while off balance into the top corner to complete the victory.

Sun’s local rivals Kings Langley remain in the Division One title hunt after they recorded a 3-0 win against Chesham United Reserves on Saturday.

The match was Kings’ fourth in the space of a week but they showed no signs of tiredness in the contest.

Connor Toomey put the side ahead in the 12th minute in bizarre fashion. He prodded a loose ball forward and Chesham goalkeeper Jack Hopwood’s air kick allowed the ball to trickle over the line and into the net.

The lead was doubled moments later. A pass forward was excellently controlled by Lee Burgoyne. He then escaped his marker before confidently firing into the net.

In the second period, Kings added a third goal when Burgoyne’s corner was sent back across goal by Craig Preston and Paul Insley’s powerful header effectively sealed the win.

Chesham did threaten late on but Kings were able to see out of the remainder of the game to secure victory.

On Thursday of last week, Kings were in ruthless form as they thumped Kentish Town 8-0.

Former Watford player Alex Campana grabbed half of the goals while Tom Carter, Toomey, Insley and Jack Johnson found the net.

Berkhamsted have slipped to fourth in the Premier Division after they were beaten 3-1 by struggling Cockfosters on Saturday.

Dale Sears had put Berko in front early into the game and they had several chances to add a second.

Their profligacy proved costly and Cockfosters drew level through Adam Ali.

The game was level at the interval but the visitors improved after the break and goals from Craig McKay and Bilal Butt condemned Berkhamsted to defeat.

Oxhey Jets extended their unbeaten run to 14 games as they played a dour 0-0 draw at Biggleswade United on Saturday.

Jets had six first-team regulars missing and that was evident in the opening period as they failed to register a shot on target.

Oxhey were better in the second period and almost grabbed the victory. However, Adam Lowton’s effort was well saved.

At the other end, Jets’ goalkeeper Dave Jacks produced two good stops to earn his side a share of the points.

Tring Athletic are tenth in the table after they claimed a 1-0 win at London Lions on Wednesday evening.

There was disappointment for Athletic on Saturday though, as they were beaten 2-1 by Hoddesdon Town.

Athletic led at the interval through Chris Salmon’s header in the 25th minute.

But it wasn’t enough as a second-half brace from Ben Andreos secured victory for Town.
