Callum Shinkwin is confident he can make an impact at the NH Collection Open in Spain as he plays his second Challenge Tour competition.

The Moor Park golfer secured his spot on the tour last November and turned professional soon after.

He played his first Challenge Tour event in Kenya last month but struggled. He finished down in 126th position after ending on eight over par.

However, speaking ahead of the Collection Open, which began today Shinkwin was positive about his chances and believes he will produce an improved display.

He said: “I’ve found that the Challenge Tour is not too different to my top amateur tournaments, which is a good thing.

“I found the first competition all right. I went out to Kenya not playing very well but came happier with my game.

“So my target in Spain is to finish as high as I can and I am very confident of doing a better job than I did in Kenya.”

As a young player, Shinkwin said he has received some guidance from Croxley Green golfer Sam Little – who earned a top-15 finish in Kenya.

But when it comes to advice from other players on the tour, he explained: “The other players are friendly but they are out there for one reason. Just like me they are out there to win.”

Shinkwin is sponsored by Ping, iPpro sports nutrition, Lyle & Scott, Tom Gallagher and Footjoy.
