Leverstock Green A overcame Frogmore's stubborn resistance last night to set up a Watford Observer Fourteen14 Plate Final against Bushey on Tuesday.

Excellent ground fielding from the Herts League Division Nine underdogs meant that Green's total - which threatened to increase on the steady ten-runs-per-over rate at one point - ended at 158 for five and gave Frogmore a least a glimmer of a chance of creating an upset.

Thirty-five was contributed to Levy's score by wides, however, offering little chance of applying pressure to the Division Two batting line-up.

In-form Nick Merrett hit 38 atop the order with Marc Simonds' 35 the only other meaningful contribution with the bat.

Chris Alger was the most economical of eight Frogmore bowlers used, going for just 15 from two eight-ball overs.

Frogmore's reply enjoyed a breezy start, the run rate sufficiently high to cause Green to introduce their spinners on a two-paced Watford Town track as early as the third over.

It stemmed the runs from what had been a useful opening stand between Daniel Albon (12) and Ayres (23).

Number three George Martin worked his way to 17, but the boundaries dried up on the 11 runs-per-over chasing rate required - until Alex Coker's lusty middle-order 22 ensured a three-figure total would be recorded by the Park Street-based club.

Lewis Koch's off-spin garnered three for 17 and skipper Sam Mazurek picked up three for 11 later on as Leverstock Green booked their final place by a margin of 57 runs.

The first of this year's Fourteen14 finals takes place tomorrow evening at Chipperfield Clarendon's ground when Abbots Langley meet Radlett in the climax to the Shield competition.
