Oxhey Jets were denied all three points at St Margaretsbury by a 94th-minute equaliser in their 2-2 draw on Tuesday.
In an evenly-contested match, it was the Jets who went ahead three minutes before the break.
Good interplay in midfield allowed Sim Armstrong to pick out the in-form Eoin Casey with an inch-perfect pass, the forward drawing goalkeeper Lee Robinson off his line before slotting home to put Wayne Gladdy’s side ahead.
In the 70th minute, the Saints were handed the chance to draw level when substitute Josh Lillis went down under the challenge of Jets goalkeeper Will Baker.
Max Mitchell stepped up to convert the spot kick but the visitors wasted little time in re-establishing their lead.
Manager Wayne Gladdy brought himself on as a substitute and after just six minutes, Gladdy put his side back in front when he struck the inside of the post with a shot from the edge of the area. Lady luck smiled on the boss and his effort rolled along the line before creeping over.
With time running out, the home side were awarded a free-kick in the by the corner flag.
The set piece was launched forward and flicked on by an Oxhey Jets’ head, the ball falling perfectly for Abel Mudiumu, who took the ball on his chest before directing an unstoppable drive into the back of Baker’s net to snatch a point for the home side.
Oxhey Jets face the daunting prospect of a trip to league-leaders Tring Athletic on Saturday.
