Abbots Langley boxer Danny Murphy insists he can put a tough year behind him and go on to win titles.

Murphy is back in the ring at the Camden Centre on Friday, October 10 - and the welterweight says back-to-back losses to Ahmet Patterson and Daryl Baptist in title fights this year haven't dented his ambition.

"I'm 25, so I'm not old, I've got good amateur experience and in my dad (ex-British champion Sean) and Danny Oliver I've got two good coaches," he said.

"If I get regular fights I see no reason why I can't step up to British-title level.

"My career so far has been frustrating and disappointing and the losses have been setbacks. I was disappointed with myself after the Patterson fight, but I haven't lost my ambition or my belief in myself."

Murphy has been frustrated by inactivity in his pro career - and says that's led to him taking tough fights before he was ready.

"I spent the whole of 2013 in the gym and I only boxed once. I think seven fights fell through and that sums up my career. "That's why I've been taking these title fights before I was ready. I was sick of training every day and never fighting.

"The big fights came too soon and now I know I need to learn a few more tricks and get a few more rounds under my belt before I step up to title level again."

Murphy starts on the road back in a six-round fight at Camden next month when Elliott Matthews, Watford's Southern Area middleweight champion, also boxes.

Murphy said: "It's been a tough year and now I'm just trying to get back on track with a win.

"I had problems making weight for the Patterson fight, but I'm sure I will be fit and busy for this.

"I'm hoping to have a couple of fights before Christmas then push on in the New Year."
