Watford Ladies manager John Salomon felt his side deserved their first win in seven after overcoming London Bees 1-0 on Sunday.

The Hornets had lost their last six Women’s Super League 2 fixtures but returned to winning ways at Berkhamsted on Sunday thanks to Sasha Adamson’s second goal in as many games.

Speaking to the club’s website, Salomon praised his side’s endeavour during what has been a tough period due to injury and form.

He said: "It’s really good to get the win; the players deserve it so much because they’ve worked hard over the last few weeks.

"We’ve put some really good performances in during difficult circumstances. We’re still not at full fitness but we’re closer to it now and it showed with a solid performance, a clean sheet and a victory, which is great."

There was praise too for Adamson, who scored the game’s only goal seconds after coming off the bench. The forward was replaced just 11 after minutes after her introduction due to injury, but had already made a telling impact by that stage.

Said Salomon: "[It is] just a shame she got a knock so had to come off, within the space of five minutes. She’s been on the pitch, had a couple of touches, scored a goal and then had to come off.

"It was another good impact from Sasha, having scored last week at Sunderland. She’s got another goal today and that’s the only two games she’s played at senior level.

"Sasha’s an exciting player for us and one we’re looking forward to working with as we move the club forwards," added Salomon.

Watford took control of proceedings early on and nearly opened the scoring after six minutes when Kim Farrow attempt to lob Bees goalkeeper Sophie Harris, who had to be alert to push her effort over the bar.

The Hornets had their best chance of the first half when Megan Wynne picked out Jo Wilson, who saw her shot blocked before falling into the path of Farrow, who curled wide.

Kate Natkiel’s header was only just kept out by Harris after the re-start, as Watford began to take control.

Despite the Hornets’ superiority, Lauren Davey had to be alert in the Watford goal; first blocking from Amber Gaylor, before recovering well to deny Sydney Hinchcliffe from the rebound.

The goal came when a Watford throw found its way to Adamson in the box, the forward instinctively firing over Harris, just seconds after her introduction as a substitute.

It could have been two just a couple of minutes later but Renee Hector saw her headed effort blocked by Harris.

Salomon’s side continued to search for their second; Chloe Gunn the next to be frustrated by the impressive Harris, before Natkiel saw another effort repelled as the minutes ticked away.

Natkiel then turned provider for Farrow, who slipped an effort agonizingly wide of the visitor’s goal.

The Bees did carve out one late opportunity; a corner kick resulting in an almighty scramble in the penalty area before Green cleared to safety to preserve the points and a clean sheet.
