After a disappointing defeat to AFC Dunstable on Saturday, Kings Langley returned to winning ways in midweek as they produced their best performance of the season to overcome Hillingdon Borough 3-1 in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

It was an impressive display from Kings at the Middlesex Stadium on Tuesday night. They passed the ball with pace and purpose and deservedly broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute.

Daryl Atkins played a neat one-two with Nick Jackson and he raced clear before slotting past Connor Spaans.

Langley then created several chances. Atkins saw a shot saved by Spaans before Dean Hitchcock fired over and then struck the crossbar with a deflected strike.

Borough struggled to keep up with Kings’ exuberant football in the opening period – a Mark Chijindu header which was saved was the closest they game.

But four minutes after the restart, Hillingdon pulled level as Chijindu forced the ball over the line from close range.

Parity lasted less than 60 seconds. Kings winger Alex Campana received the ball on the edge of the box and his on-target shot took a deflection and ended in the net.

Langley regained control and they added a decisive third goal as Ollie Cox’s free-kick was turned in at the near post by Stuart Deaton.

A potential fourth was denied when a trip on Campana looked to be inside the box. The referee waved away the appeals but by then Kings had done enough to coast home.

Kings were disappointing on Saturday and were beaten 2-0 by Dunstable.

Atkins had chances for Langley in the opening period but the match was goalless at the interval.

However, one minute after the restart, the visitors went in front as the ball broke to Jimmy Hartley and he confidently finished.

Dunstable seized control of the game but Langley almost created an equaliser when Harold Joseph hit the post from a corner.

But the visitors secured the victory in the 81st minute as Hartley grabbed his second of the game.

Kings take on Burton Park Wanderers this weekend in the FA Vase second qualifying round.
