Watford Grammar School for Girls pupils were treated to a visit from England and Arsenal Ladies footballer Casey Stoney on Wednesday.
Stoney spent the day at the school as part of her role as their Sky Living for Sport mentor. The defender held a workshop which included a GCSE masterclass skills session with the Year 8 to 10 girls.
Stoney also spoke to the pupils about her career and how she overcame adversity to become an international footballer.
PE teacher Xanthe Mainwaring said: “It was really inspirational. The girls really got a lot out of the whole day.
“Casey talked about how she had come through adversity throughout her life and managed to overcome different obstacles to get where she wanted.
“She had a big impact on everyone and proved that you have to keep going when things aren’t going well.”
She added: “As a project the girls are running the race for life next year in Cassiobury Park and Casey said if she is not busy she will come along, which considering she lives in Essex is a really nice gesture.”
