Oxhey Jets fought back from 3-0 down to secure a draw against London Tigers, less than 24 hours after finding out teammate Greg Usher had suffered a suspected stroke.

The 23-year-old was rushed to hospital on Friday after suffering a suspected stroke, but it is now believed it could have been a complex migraine. More tests are being run in the mean time to determine the issue.

With as many as nine players unavailable to boss Wayne Gladdy, including Usher, it was unsurprising Jets started slowly.

Trailing 2-0 at half-time, a third arrived shortly after the break, prompting a tactical re-shuffle from Gladdy.

With the half-fit Sim Armstrong introduced from the bench, Jets rallied and with 19 minutes to go the comeback was on; Luke Beardsworth curling into the corner of the net.

Just four minutes later, a second followed when Beardsworth won a free-kick. However farcical scenes ensued when a whistle sounded from the next pitch, prompting a Tigers player to pick the ball up and remonstrate with the referee, who promptly awarded a penalty.

From the resulting spot-kick, Eoin Casey slotted home to bring Jets within a goal.

Chances continued to go Jets’ way, with Lee Armitt missing a gilt-edged chance when he could have squared for the open Beardsworth to tap home.

However Gladdy’s side did not end up ruing the miss and drew level when Beardsworth’s free-kick aimed towards Armitt ended up in the back of the net via a London Tigers player.

The draw leaves Oxhey Jets in seventh place in the South Midlands Premier Division, but having played as many as four more on those around them.

Jets are away to Hertford Town on Saturday.
