Watford moved up to second in Herts Middlesex Two after a 24-7 bonus-point win at home to Old Isleworthians on Saturday.

After a series of strong carries, Simon Bram fed centre Ian Butcher, who ghosted through the middle of the park to score under the posts to open the scoring for Watford.

Isleworthians were guilty of infringing at the breakdown and the subsequent penalty was rifled into the corner. From the resulting lineout, captain Martin Lee crashed over the line for the home side’s second try.

The half-time whistle came with Watford 12-0 ahead at the break.

James Powell was moved to the centre but looked far from out of place in the back line and was on hand to feed Scott Menzies for a simple finish after the restart for the converted try.

Isleworthians grew in confidence and were rewarded with a score next to the posts.

This roused Watford, who reverted to all out attack for the final minutes, knowing that in such a tightly contested league a bonus point would be crucial.

Desperate Isleworthians defence resulted in a Watford penalty, which was kicked to touch. From the resulting lineout, Lee peeled from the back and was just bundled into touch before touching down.

The referee announced that the next play was the be the last of the game and Watford looked to have missed out on taking all five points. However, the visitors’ hooker overthrew the ball, Lee won possession and drove over the line to secure a dramatic fourth try.

Watford Seconds maintained their impressive form with a 17-5 win over Enfield Fourths.

It was Watford that struck first with a powerful run from number eight Conor Stevens to open the scoring under the posts.

But Enfield responded quickly and their winger crossed the line in the corner to make it 7-5 to Watford at the break.

Watford scored a second try when prop Thomas forced his way over from close range to extend their advantage.

The side were lifted by this and Thomas again proved too powerful for the opposition as he held off the winger to score again and seal their third consecutive win.
