West Herts ladies remain top of the East Premier Division after the Stags completed a 6-1 home win over Tunbridge Wells on Saturday.

The hosts got off to the perfect start. Anna Coppel converted a rebound after Anna McGlaughlin’s shot had been blocked and the advantage was doubled when Rachel Findlay found the net.

West Herts were in control and added a third in the 21st minute through Judith Duffin, who deflected in Helen Devereux’s pass.

Tunbridge tried their best to get back into the game but the home defence stood firm and, on the half-an-hour mark, Helen Humphrey made it 4-0 with another deflected strike from a McGlaughlin shot at a short corner.

Becky Perry missed a penalty stroke before the break but the Stags were four goals in front at the interval.

After such a productive and dominant first half, West Herts lost their shape and structure in the second period.

Tunbridge reduced the deficit via a converted penalty corner but the Stags hit back and restored their four-goal advantage through Louise Smith.

Perry’s penalty corner strike rounded off another strong all-round performance by the team.

There was further success for West Herts’ ladies’ teams at the weekend.

The Seconds defeated Stevenage 4-0 in Five Counties Premier while the Thirds drew 0-0 at Cheshunt in Division One. The Fifths beat Rickmansworth 6-0 in Division Six.

The men’s first team had the weekend off which saw the Seconds take centre stage. The Stags side went top of the East Division Two South after recording a 5-3 win at Blueharts.

West Herts got off to a blistering start as Morne Hoffman struck from a short corner and minutes later Luke Frey netted the first of his brace to make it 2-0.

A poor foul on skipper Matt Corbridge spurred Herts on and Frey was on hand to receive a pinpoint pass from Jem Lowen and finish.

The visitors were in full control and added a fourth as Pete Corbridge scored from a rebound with only 20 minutes gone.

The game then lost momentum but West Herts added a fifth through Jason Mallory.

The Stags’ performance then dropped off and indiscipline crept into their game. Blueharts took advantage and scored three times but West Herts regrouped and sealed victory.

In Division Three South West, the Stags Thirds defeated Luton Town 3-2 while the Fourths overcame Blueharts Fourths 6-2 in Division Five.

The Fifths drew 0-0 with Letchworth in Division Six while the Sixths won 4-2 against Broxbourne Fourths.

A positive weekend was rounded off by the Sevenths as they beat Hertford Fifths 3-1 in Division Nine.
