Tabard clinched their first victory of the season after a 46-17 home win over Hemel Hempstead in London Two North West on Saturday.

The hosts dominated the bottom of the table clash as they ran in eight tries to secure a convincing bonus-point success.

Tabard were on the scoreboard within the first minute of the game after debutant Teddy Gough chased up a kick into Hemel territory, only for the ball to land in the hands of Joe Calnan whose finish was converted by Jack Reilly.

The lead was extended quickly when captain Sam Barrow crashed over the line for their second of the game.

With both sides down to 14 men, Tabard took advantage of the depleted Hemel line-out.

A characteristic catch and drive on the Hemel 22 allowed Reilly the chance to break down the blind side and crash over for a well-taken third try.

Wilf Lake powered over for Tabard’s fourth score of the game which was converted to make it 25-0.

In the second half, Hemel forced their way over for their first try of the afternoon. But this was wiped out when Rhys Lewis plucked the ball out of the air and crossed the line for another score.

Hemel grabbed a second try but this was again cancelled out when the hosts’ penalty resulted in Dan Calnan finishing off a forward drive.

Barrow rounded off the scoring with their eighth try of the match and Hemel’s final score could not take the gloss off a rewarding afternoon for Tabard.
